When Jowar ke Laddoo Met Jaggery

Laddoo, the most delectable (and portable) delicacy of India is the one which has been responsible for establishing various emotional connections. If you are an Indian, you must be aware of the importance a Laddoo holds in your life.
We obviously can’t keep our hands away from it, especially during a festive season. But now, a misunderstanding crept in between our conscience and our heart, where one chose health while the other chose motichur. It’s a fix you don’t seem to be getting out of – no matter how much you try to bring your conscience & heart on the same page, they just don’t.
And then, I met Jowar and revisited my favourite dessert, laddoo, to make Jowar Laddoo with Jaggery. Those with wheat or gluten allergies need to pay special attention, because this dessert is completely Gluten-free and helps with Celiac disease.
Jowar Laddoo recipe using jaggery:
What you need:
- 10 g Besan (Bengal gram flour)
- 20 g Jowar
- 5 g Jaggery
- Cardamom to taste
- 1-2 Cloves
- 5-10 g Almonds
- 10 g Ghee
Nutritional benefits: Jowar, the wonder grain, is rich in fibre, calcium, good carbs, amino acids & Vitamin D.
Calories: 260-280 kcal
Course type: Dessert
How you cook:
- Pour ghee in a pan and roast almonds, along with Jowar and Besan.
- Add cardamom and cloves.
- Make a jaggery syrup in a separate pan by boiling it with some water.
- Add roasted almonds, Jowar, Besan mixture and allow it to cool.
- Make small laddoos out of it and serve.

The festivities have already begun, and one surely can’t stay away from tempting Laddoos. But that doesn’t mean you let your extra effort of maintaining an ideal weight go in vain by consuming those unwanted calories. Rather, this recipe is the one made especially for you, keeping in mind those extra carbs which you might consume this festive season. So, eat healthy, stay fit.
