Makhane ki kheer served healthy

Life would become so dull and monotonous without this sticky, gooey & sweet delicacy, which has been bringing a smile on our faces since its inception. Being an Indian, and being brought up like every other Indian kid, I have been familiar with the various types of kheer. Starting from rice, semolina, vermicelli and so on and so forth. But the most important thing is the memories related to it. I am a sweet tooth, and literally, like every other sweet, but none can take the place of kheer ever. Then there comes a time when we start worrying about our health & weight and thereby start making the distance from those memory-laden delicacies. So, I came up with this simple & healthy recipe of Makhane ki kheer, to be the dessert perfect this festive season, and for re-living those lovely memories.
Makhane ki Kheer:
What you need:
- 15g of Makhana, uncooked
- 250-300 ml of Skimmed milk
- 10-15 g Almonds
- Saffron & cardamom powder to taste
- 5 g Jaggery
Nutritional benefits: A bowl of insoluble fibre, rich in antioxidants, Omega 3 and minerals like magnesium, sodium etc.
Calories: 250-270 kcal
How you cook:
- Roast makhana in a heavy- bottomed pan.
- Roast the nuts.
- Boil milk and add roasted makhana.
- Then add cardamom, saffron, and nuts.
- Finally, add jaggery for the sweetness.
- Serve hot or cold, as per your liking.
