It becomes almost visible when they lay out the fact that Hyderabad is famous for Biryani, the reason being obvious as their way of cooking biryani differs from the traditional one. The Hyderabadi Biryani is diligently prepared in a Kutchi (raw) way, in which they cook raw rice and raw meat together with a blend of spices and considerate amount of water. Now, they cook the dish in a “handi” (earthen pot) which gives it another touch of authentic taste and flavour.

Hyderabad’s land is cultivated throughout the year which includes the four crops namely: cotton, paddy (semiaquatic rice) holding sufficient levels of carbohydrates working as a good source of energy in your body. Maize has to offer the necessary calories required by your daily metabolism, rich in vitamin A, B, E, high fiber preventing constipation and lowering high blood pressure. At last, groundnuts (peanuts) – promote fertility due to folate content in it. Also, it contain good amount of tryptophan which help fight depression. Other than that, peanuts have essential amino acid, important for the production of serotonin; it’s a brain chemical that is involved in good mood regulation.

The cuisine offers a wide range of delicacies which are slightly sour, hot & richly imbedded with nuts and assorted spices. The most meticulous flavour adding to the delicacies is of the “asli ghee” used in almost every plate of the food. POPULAR DISHES OF HYDERABAD
- Hyderabadi Biryani: You know you love it when you can have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Calling all the non-vegetarian souls to savour this delicacy which is cooked with chicken and prepared in the most delightful way. Raw chicken is cooked with raw rice to give it a scrumptious blend along with spices and now, you can only think of eating it up! While chicken is high in proteins and vitamins B3 and B6, rice is rich in carbohydrates, starch being the main contributor. Rice may be a negative factor for diabetics and so, this must be considered.
- Michi Ka Salan: This dish is a gravy form served with biryani using green chillies. Mirchi refers to ‘chillies’ and Salan refers to the ‘gravy’. The gravy is made thick with ingredients like sesame seeds, peanuts and coconut, which makes most of the part of the gravy. Most part of the gravy is made with coconut, which is highly nutritious and rich in fibre. Green chillies are a good source of Vitamin C and are also high in fibre.
- Double Ka Meetha: Saying that Hyderabad has only to offer non-veg delicacies would be an understatement and as the name suggests, the dish is kind of a dessert to help you satiate your sweet cravings. They are especially prepared during Eid festivities and are made with bread slices soaked in reduced milk and loaded with dry fruits. Since it contains sugar and ghee, it must be taken in a considerate amount so as to avoid excess calorie count.
- Phirni: After all the hustle-bustle of food, it becomes truly significant to have a delightful dessert and Hyderabad won’t leave you unsatisfied. Phirni is made with milk thickened with rice flour and then flavoured with cardamom and rose essence and almond milk is added too, which is rich in Vitamin E. This dish is perfect for after-food cravings. At last limit the phirni portion to maintain your calorie intake.
- Lukhmi: Part of the local cuisine of Hyderabad, Lukhmi is just another version of samosas. It is made with the fillings of minced meat with a lot of other spices. This version of a samosa is little different of regular aalo samosa making it a little more considerable for eating. We suggest you to bake these samosas while preparing at your home. Doing so will help you consume lesser oil and adhere you from taking in unnecessary fats and calories.
