Tri-Color Rice

Tri-Color rice is an interesting dish perfect for occasions like Republic Day and Independence Day. This recipe can be prepared easily with simple ingredients like cooked rice, tomatoes, and coriander. Occasions like parties, anniversaries, and festivals are perfect to serve this recipe. Prepare this delicious recipe at home and flaunt your culinary skills.

Nutritional Benefits:

Rice is the main ingredient of this recipe which is rich source of carbohydrates and therefore, acts as a source of fuel for the body. Eating rice prevents constipation and controls blood pressure. Tomatoes is the another major ingredient of this dish which is a dietary source of the antioxidant lycopene, and also been linked to many health benefits, including reduced risk of heart disease and cancer. Tomatoes are also a great source of vitamin C, potassium, folate, and vitamin K.

Ingredients:

  • 70 gm rice

For Orange rice

  • 20 gm small onion, chopped
  • 50 gm tomatoes, pureed
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds (rai)

For White rice

  • ½ teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds (rai)
  • 5 gm split Bengal gram (channa dal)
  • 5 gm split black lentils (urad dal)
  • 5 gm grated coconut

For Green rice

  • 4 sprigs of coriander
  • 1 green chili
  • 1 teaspoon cashew nuts
  • ½ teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds (rai)
  • 5 gm split black lentils (urad dal)

 

Course: Lunch
Calories: 170 kcal
Carbs: 24 gm
Protein: 7gm
Fat: 6 gm

Method:

  • First cook the rice in enough water and spread it on a tray to cool. Once it has cooled a little, then proceed.

Orange rice

  • Heat the oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds to it and cook until they starts to pop.
  • Add the chopped onions in the pan and cook it for a couple of minutes.
  • Add the tomato puree, red chili powder, salt, and garam masala to it and cook it till the oil separates from the masala.
  • Take the 1/3rd of the cooked rice and toss it with the prepared masala.
  • Add the salt and seasonings and then switch off the flame.

White rice

  • Heat the oil in a pan and also add the mustard seeds to it.
  • Let the seeds splutter and add the channa dal and urad dal to it.
  • Fry them on low heat flame until they turn golden brown and add the grated coconut to it.
  • Roast it for just a minute. Add the salt and another third of the rice and mix it well.

Green rice

  • Put the coriander leaves, green chili and cashews in a blender and prepare a smooth paste with a little water.
  • Heat the oil in a pan and cook the mustard seeds until it starts to pop.
  • Fry the urad dal and then add the prepared green paste to it.
  • Cook this for a few minutes, until the raw smell is gone.
  • Add the salt and the remaining rice and switch off the flame.
