Dal is a staple Indian food that is consumed in variety of ways across the country. While having dal with your roti or rice is a basic food set-up, you can also have your dal in the form of a crunchy nutritious chaat. Take a look!

- Milk: Moong dal is packed with many health benefits. It contains antioxidants named Vitexin and Isovitexin that helps in prevention of heart diseases. It lowers high blood cholesterol levels, and aids in reduction of high blood pressure.
- Pomegranate: Pomegranates acquire their vibrant red color from polyphenols. They are rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals and bioactive plant compounds. They can help protect from heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and also obesity.

- ½ katori (30 gms) moong dal – washed and soaked for ½ hour
- ½ onion- finely chopped
- ½ tomato finely chopped
- 10 grams pomegranate seeds
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp chaat masala (optional)- you can use salt instead
- Drain water from moong dal. Add it to a pan by combining it with 2 cups of water and salt
- Cook it on medium heat till dal is half done. Stir occasionally. Make sure that each grain is separate.
- Strain the dal and keep aside to cool for 10 minutes.
- Mix all the ingredients, including the moong dal, in a large bowl and toss well.
- Serve immediately.Note: You can use other varieties of dal also for this recipe.
