Additional intake must be obtained from a healthy balanced diet comprising all the food groups in sufficient proportions. If the mother doesn’t consume the right amount of foods, the energy spent while breastfeeding will be leached out from mother’s own body stores. Here’s a delicious recipe that’s good for your taste buds and your little one.
Nutritional benefits- Beetroot does it all for breastfeeding mothers. Beetroot contains iron, calcium and folic acid. They are essential for recouping anaemic mothers, act as detoxifying agents and make baby strong. Cumin seeds boost the supply of milk. They help to avoid digestive irritants thereby preventing acidity. Chickpeas are full of protein and act as lactation booster for nursing mums. It is rich in calcium, B-complex vitamins and fibre.

Steam the chopped beetroot. Keep aside.
In a pan, pour some oil, add cumin seeds, onion, green chillies and salt cooked for a minute.
Add soaked chickpeas and steamed beetroot into the pan and cook it for some time.
Add the mixture in cooked rice, mix it well.
Garnish it with coriander leaves and enjoy.
